Hello welcome back. I've been card making this morning, well anything to avoid putting the washing away! It actually got me thinking about what it takes to make card or more importantly what it costs to make a card. Now your regular card seller you find a craft fair has paid usually around £10 for the table (they may even have had to provide a table too!. So factor they need to sale 3-4 to cover the table fee. So £2 to £3.50 for a hand made card sound like a lot? This is what it took to make one card. The products on this table would cost over £50 to buy!. Now I'll admit it's not the most striking of cards so not really the best example but i am sure you will begin to see how £2.50 for a hand made card is not actually that much. Could you guess how much good quality card costs? Let's take an A4 piece for around 35 pence. Its a lot isn't it.
Of course card makers are mostly just funding the habit ( well helping to). The best part about buying a hand made card is the ability to have it personalised or set to a theme. Plus have you noticed how much it costs to buy a mass produced card from the high street!. How ever please don't let this post put you off getting into card making. You don't have to buy lots of products to produce a card. Of course you might want to!. As always thanks for reading I will leave you with some pictures of some of my recent card makes. Xxxxx

A couple of months ago I saw this new range from docrafts called country life. I loved it the moment I saw it. I opted for the ribbon, embellishment pack and A4 paper and die cut pack. I originally wanted this set to make some projects for my kitchen but I couldn't help start with cards. The a4 paper pack comes with papers and lots of press out sentiments and Decoupage pieces. This makes it very easy to make cards. These two cards are great floral ones. It's always easier to make female cards than male but I wanted to try with these two. Whilst this set is lovely it's always nice to have a few extras to allow for finishing touches. I purchased the ribbon pack but it's so lovely I don't want to use it. The papermania bare basics go well with set as does a mix of colours of buttons. I really want to buy some twine in matching colours. As I said my plan is to add some country life around the house so I made a mini calendar. To make one cut a large shape of your choice in thick card and then they same again in your chosen pattern. I used an xcut die but you could just cut a square. Then pick an image to add to the top centre of you card. Stick the layers together and then ad your calendar tab. Whole punch to allow you to han and add some coordinating ribbon or twine. I added buttons to the bottom. Well I hope you like the look of this range. I have a lot of projects planned for this so make sure you keep checking back xxx
When it comes to buying dies knowing what to buy can be tricky. I really needed some more masculine dies. This sizzilet is an old die from the sizzix range and it's perfect two boots and a ball. I paid a few pounds for this and I know it's worth it. ( check out eBay). For the card bellow I used a sizzix embossing folder on blue card just slightly smaller than the white card base. Then I added a much smaller white square with a smaller blue square as well as adding the ball and boots. Lastly I stamped a happy birthday sentiment onto white card. I also made some cute little gift tags and a tiny card. Lastly the black grey and white card. For this card I used some Papermania papers. I really think this die is going to be useful I may even try some sort of a pop up card.
I really recommend taking a little time out to think about the sort of dies you might need and how many uses you can get from them before you spend your hard earned cash. Have a lovely weekend xxxxx |
