I think I may have become a little obsessed with winter warmers. When I take my two troublesome doggies out for a morning stroll it can be so cold! It means a hat is a must really and I didn't have a brown one but I did have some brown wool. If you have made a hat before it's a bit like making a circle that just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I found this pattern on utube it has this technique on the bottom that I've never tried before it's kind of a cross pattern almost. I am sorry for not having a link to it, it's seamed to have disappeared. More snoods! I had so much wool left I decided to make a snood infact I made two!. The chunky pink long snood has a raspberry trim and is so warm and I also made a small brown one. Then I did something really naughty I made another snood using half a ball of so soft blue wool left over from a blanket. This was ment to be a present for my brother who's birthday is in march but I loved it so much then I decided that actually it's going to be lovely and warm in march so he won't need a snood and it goes with lots of things I wear! Wool storage I think I have a bit of a storage obbssesion. If you have a lot of wool especially if you have left over bits you will know how quickly it can get tangled. I've been organising different areas in my house and I was looking for a way to store my wool when I decided to store it in clear freezer bags according to colours. Then I have popped them into laundry baskets that I can slide under my bed.
I really would like to switch over to a more eco friendly locally sourced wool to ensure the animals have great living conditions. Im also concerned about the colours used in the wool. That being said I don't like waste so I will be using it up slowly!. But I'm sure I've finished winter warmers now I definitely have enough snoods to last me a few winters. I've decided to keep Crochet for the weekends and I'm planning on making a flower garland next I will bring you a pattern for that so please do check back again soon. Xxxx

Hello again. I think it's time I told you a little bit more about me and what I'm up to. You see there has to be a little hippy in me, a little something deep inside that is calling out to me to be more cautious with my carbon footprint. To be kinder to myself and our planet. To reduce, reuse and to lesson the objects in our house, infact I want to get the belongings down to a minimum. Slowly we have been getting rid of furniture and nick nacks! In fact if I don't love it and we dont use it's going. Lessoning my belongings is so therapeutic. Less to clean (a massive bonus), less to store!, More space and you actually start to enjoy what you have so much more. Sadly you realise that actually you have wasted a lot of money on things you didn't need and don't bring anything to your life. As well as getting rid of things we are also increasing our recycling. We went on a bin hunt today. My plan is for bathrooms to have two bins a largish one for recyclables such as lol rolls, empty bottles ect and a smaller one for non recyclables. I want to do this in our kitchen as well as at the moment we have a bin for food recycling on the draining board and a standard bin. We just put the recycling on the draining board and take it out as and when. Small steps but it all helps. As well as my concern for our environment I'm also concerned about what I put onto my body as well as what I put into it!. So I am lessoning the chemicals we are using starting with the eco egg! Now this egg filled with pellets no nasty chemicals. The special pellets are friendly to skin and it has been scientifically proven to clean your clothes. It's brilliant I've used it for 5 washes now, whites as well. Obviously it's not got saucy pasta stains out of a white t-shirt but then neither did my usual washing powder!. You can buy some stain removers from the same company If you need to. I haven't added fabric softener either. The only down side is you don't get a build up of chemicals in the machine which keeps your washing machine from becoming smelly so they recommend running it every so often on a hot wash with some vinegar. Which really we should be doing anyway!. This cost £9.99 for 210 washes not bad and no chemicals. Natural BEAUTYI've always had a love of lovely smelling soaps in fact it's on my list of things I'd like to learn to make.
But once you start to learn about what goes into the beauty products we use and use on our children it starts to become a real concern. So when I came across this book called freedom face I knew I had stumbled on just what I needed the reasoning and methods needed to make my own product's!. I can't tell you what I'll be using but I'll certainly be sharing the results with you over time. I think I have everything I need now to get started. So make sure you keep an eye out for more posts. If you would like to learn more about Freedom face or the author (it's a digital download) and definitely one of my favourite blogs click on the link bellow. Have a lovely weekend xxxx If you could see inside my head at this moment you would see a jumping child about to be given the biggest bag of sweets ever. That's how excited my little brain is. Today I have been to my first craft show. The Craft 4 crafters show in Exeter. oh wow was I excited. If you have never been to one before they consist of stands full of goodies to buy, some very new. Some of these stands have people demonstrating products some don't. They also have a number of workshop shops you can attend. Anyone looking for a new craft to try I would recommend paying one of these events a visit. But do be aware you may need to book in advance for some classes. These are usually very reasonably priced. This picture is of a beautiful stand from the pressed flower guild. For £1 you could make a key ring. I was a little surprised not to see more children because lots of the activities would be fine for children over 7. I actually didn't take many photos as I saw lots of signs asking you not to take photos. So today I saw a good mix of products available. Sewing machines, fabric, Papercraft, needle felting, ribbons, artist supplies, one wood carving group, lots of beads, some hand made clothes, lots of stunning quilts, craft books, origami plus lots more. I'd say something for everyone. Mostly items are priced well with begginers kits available on lots of stalls. What's going to be big? Well if that's anything to go by id say stencils. I saw some absolutely gorgeous paints to use with them and lots of glitter. It's a great way to stock up on basics. Lots of card packs at good value as well as double sided tape. I'd pictured in my head I'd look out for a needle felting kit as I'm itching to give it a go and it's my birthday soon so completely justifiable but I got distracted by something else. Block Craft. Block craft is inspired by ancient Indian art of block printing. Using hand carved Indian wooden printing blocks, fabric paint you can print on all sorts of items, including card, fabric, scarves, tea towels the list is endless. I will be honest the friendly staff and lovely display drew me in but seeing the finished results was just fantastic so I purchased a small set. I will review it for you next week. So after a long day I'm exhausted but still so excited about the day.
My next one the NEC perhaps? The only negative was I had expected some of the big Papercraft names to attend but apparently they will at the NEC. If you missed this one then try the bath and west show ground on Thursday the 6th April to Saturday the 8th April. Well it's half past 10 now and my brain is headed into sleep land. Have a lovely weekend xxxx Hello welcome back. This post should have been a paper craft one but it's been such a crazy crafty week I wanted to share with you what I've been up to. This week I haven't stopped and not only have I made loads but the variety has been massive. Let's start with this a metal etched sheet. For Christmas I bought the silhouette curio. I will review it for you soon but this machine allows you to cut and etch different thicknesses. These sheets are silhouettes own brand. It's not perfect but I was itching to try one out. My problem being that I'm not sure what I'd do with it. Should it be on a wall or drilled onto a jewellery box or in a frame?. Im really not sure what to do with it yet. ![]() When things go wrong! ![]() Painted slate hearts This is a failed design you see I was attempting to etch onto this slate heart but the slate is such an uneven surface that it kept going wrong. I hate wasting things so I tried to paint over the words. This wonky file looked great on the screen but not good painted on!. I tried to add some folk style roses but sadly this is a reject. But then that got me thinking about trying a more simple design. ![]() I love it! I love painting it I love how it's turned out. In fact I love it so much ive added it to my shop and ive already got orders for more!. You see it's ok when things go wrong and they will and they do but sometimes we just need to try. Please don't be afraid to try a new craft. ![]() Wood work! Yep held tightly in the vice is my mushroom I know it's difficult to see it's a hard wood it's been difficult to work with. This week was my return to wood carving after weeks off due to ill children and all sorts and I'm getting ready to start something new which I'm really excited to share with you. An apple bowl! But sadly with half term in the way it's going to be a while till I get my hands on it again. Can you remember my magazine freebie to make? I finally got round to making it. I made my heart small I was going to make more to make heart chain but they tend to curl up so I decided against it. You can find lots of videos on YouTube to help crochet a heart. That's not all I've been crocheting this week. I started making a hat without looking at a pattern which is never a good idea and it went kind of wrong so then I decided to continue with it and make a draft excluder. I'm hoping that once it's finished and stuffed with filling it will look ok! Time will tell. I've also been cutting out embellishments. You see watching YouTube whilst you work is never a good idea!. Whilst watching a Friend make up embellishments for subscription boxes I just felt the need to cut out some embellishments. Well you can never have enough supplies for that emergency birthday card. Well next week is half term and we have a Valentines cake to make plus I'm heading to my first craft exhibition I can't wait and I'll tell you all about it.
Plus I've some guest blog posts to write, one more item to make for a competition and I want to talk to you about owning a craft business so lots and lots to come. As always thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog I am always thrilled when I see my stats. Have a wonderful week. Xxxx Hello don't you just love February? Well perhaps not but I do. It's cold and wet at the moment but the days are getting a little longer it's a little brighter in the mornings and although we are all willing spring on we know we have to get through February first. I think that's why Valentines day we invented! , Well almost certainly not but when you think about it it's cold dark and can be a bit depressing so the idea of spreading some love isn't a bad thing. After all what is life without love?. It could be the love you have for a pet, your children your patner, family, friends or the memories of someone no longer with us. It's important to take some time out to celebrate it, express your feelings and let those most close to you know you care. Of course we shouldn't have to have one date dedicated to this we should be able to show how we feel when ever we choose, some would say every day. But for those a little scared to express themselves, for those people Valentines day severes as a chance to allow them the opportunity to do so. At this time of year i love that I can bring my favourite colour into our home and yes I know it's commercialised but everything I've bought is going up to my bedroom after so it's not wasteful. Perhaps you would like to add a love to your house?. I took advantage of pound lands bargains and invested in a few goodies. Like these lovely wooden heart lights. They are battery powered but they last ages. I also picked up these wooden hearts and this lovely wooden me and you sign it's almost asking to be decorated but I actually like they way it looks. I have my sign I made last year "love is the closest thing to magic" and they had these felt heart bunting which you are supposed to hang the hearts at and angle but I decided to add some holes so they could hang upright. Because it fitted in with the red crochet roses I put my red wreath up to go with it.
So that is it for now. Just one more week to go and then it's half term. I plan to make some paper heart decorations, Valentines cup cakes and some little cute boxes. I hope you spread a little love this year in any way you can. Take care everyone xxxx |
