Remember this notice board?. I picked this up at a village jumble sale I think I paid 25p for it knowing it would be perfect for a crafty revamp. I really wanted to use my new Country life range. I started with the ribbon and I added some ginger bread man ribbon I already had as the colours matched. I used a hot glue gun to attach the ribbon to the edges. I wanted to add some pegs to hock things on and to hold a note book and as pen. Using some basic wooden pegs I stuck some pretty CO ordinating papers on the pegs and cut around the edges. These pegs have been secured in place using hot glue. Next I took some drawing pins and hot glued some matching interesting buttons to the pins. Do give these a few minutes to adhere. Lastly I tied a kettle and a tea cup from the co ordinating range onto some red twine. I made my notice board to match with my kitchen and I am really pleased with the results. Now to find a space for it. Thanks for reading my blog today xxxx

Hello it's Friday and the last day of school. Are you like me? I can't wait to have my children home and hopefully with sunny weather we will be together enjoying family time. I am expecting the extent of my crafting will probably involve play dough, sandcastle building and sharpies so forgive me if my little blog suffers a little next week. I haven't abandoned you I promise. Infact I have so many exciting things to share with you soon. I figured this would be a great time to just touch on a few new things coming soon. Did you catch my picture of the hedgehog? Yep I've been learning some wood work skills, well carving ones, I will share more details with you soon about exactly what I have been creating. My point is I'm ready to try some new skills and learn some new techniques. Top of my plans is ink techniques and I'm desperate to try some different makes of ink pads. I am also ready to try some mixed media crafts yep mixing a range of textures and materials which I'm thinking would be great for a Halloween wreath. I may even get my hands on a sewing machine! I know I'm worried but I have something I really want to make which requires a sewing machine of some sort!. What am I so excited about? It's the new Stampin Up catalogue. It's due to go live soon and is full of amazing products but that's all I'm saying about that. (Quick get online and find your local demonstrator and get a copy in your hands).
For a few years now I've been wanting to make some bath products but the more I learn about it the more worried I get so I think a kit might be the way forward. So let's leave it at that for now. Take care everyone and enjoy your Friday xxxx Welcome back for a magazine review I know I normally pop this magazine review in my Papercraft section, but actually this magazine is very versatile. Now I do love docrafts Creativity Magazine but I don't always buy it!. Ok OK I bought it for the free gifts to be honistly but rarely am I disappointed when I do buy this magazine. Now I am usually not a fan of free stamps with magazine's as they tend to be poor quality but these are actually really nice. They are from a new range called Mr Smith's workshop. As you can guess from the name it's full of textured papers, metals and workshop related embellishments. I must admit I am very tempted to try this set. But hold on next month's issue gives you free papers from this range so with this month's stamp set your ready to make your father's day card. Before I invest in any of this range I am going to wait until I get my hands on next month's magazine!. As well as the stamps you get an a4 sheet of Decoupage from the new range of gorjuss products just out.
I think they have listened as this range is much brighter but still true to its character. Both are easy to use and as you can see from the card I made above the backing paper was from another gorjuss range which is handy. But what I am most excited about is the new gorjuss pens and stamps coming out. So in this magazine you will find a few sewing projects, lots of techniques, some home crafts and lots of information about new and existing products coming out. I will be making a fathers day project if your interested buy this month's and next month's issues. Take care have a crafty weekend. Xxxxx For a little while now I have been thinking about making a summer wreath. Sadly I am on a no spend month so buying lots of lovely bright coloured wool to make a Crochet wreath was just not going to happen but I knew I had loads of scraps of felt plus a wire wreath so this would be free to make. You will need a selection of flower dies or just one if you want a different look. You also need a wire wreath ring plus some ribbon or string, hot glue gun and felt. Start by wrapping string or ribbon around your wreath and tie to secure it. This is also a good time to tie some pretty ribbon to allow you to hang your wreath. I used two different shades of bright green felt for my leaf's which I die cut using an xcut leaf shape. Mine are big enough to cover the wreath. If you don't have a leaf die then you could cut yours by hand. I glued my leaves in place with hot glue. Next cut out your flowers in a mix of colours. I used lots of little scraps for mine. Then arrange them on to get an even look before you glue them in place. I really like the layered look on this but I had to add a few buttons!. But the finished result I am not sure about. It's a little flat. I wonder if it would have looked better on a polystyrene wreath ? I am not sure but for now it has a place and I definitely want to try a mixed media wreath soon much more 3D. This has however confirmed my need to make a summer Crochet wreath and thankfully I have some lovely summer flower patterns I just need to buy some coloured wool next month! Thanks for reading I hope you give this project a go. Xxxxx Well you know me I can't resist a wreath, gutted as this ones not for me!. I knew the colours I wanted were so important and this is to grace a little baby girls room it had to be pretty. Now in my family we like biscuits, as far as I know it's something from my Dads side of the family. When I was little we would visit my Nan and Grandad. Sadly both are no longer with us. Something that was clear in my mind from our visits as well as other memories was the biscuit tin. No not the actual tin but more importantly the contents. Now my Nan and Grandad had the best taste in biscuits. I actually think it was my Grandad who loved the biscuits the most, as after losing my Nan he still had the biscuits when we would visit. These biscuits would be strawberry's creams, orange creams and biscuits with marshmallow and coconut. As this wreath is going to my niece Chloe it is all important that she learns about the important things in life. Anyway back to the wreath. I wanted to include biscuits in this wreath but I have this fear of Crochet that needs stuffing. I am sure if I really wanted to make the biscuits I could but I would have had to purchased all the different colour wool and the patterns, it would have cost as much as these did to buy these ones. I got these from eBay. Never be afraid of buying something made by someone else to use on a project. After all I am appreciating someone else's love of Crochet, skill and helping them no doubtly to buy more wool. As you can see I simply added a safety pin as what makes this wreath special is that this wreath can be changed. Chloe will be able to play with these when she is older as they are removable. So when she is playing with them what happens to the wreath?. Well it had to be flowers. I made a mix of standard Roses again with pins in so they can be added. The base. A polystyrene wreath is what you want. I made a chain of 40 then single chained into each chain changing colours randomly. Opps I'm not sure how many chains I did but you need enough to wrap around the base. I just kept trying until it fit. I always leave a small amount of wool from each colour I add so I can stitch it together at the back. So I hit that point in the project when I knew I was running out of steam. I just couldn't face making more Roses so I altered the pattern playing around until I had made this spikey flower. You will need a 4mm hook. Start by chaining 42 now TR in the second chain from the hook. TR in each stitch unil you get to the end. Next single chain two and single chain into the 1st stitch the. DC in the next stich htr into to the same stitch and then DC in the same stich. Then single chain into the next stitch. Then repeat the pattern. 1dc 1htr 1dc into the same stitch then single chain into the next stich until you get the end. Slip stitch to finish the flower leaving a long end t allow you to roll up your flower. I used a needle to take the wool through the flower so it didn't unravel. This is my first pattern I have written. Forgive me if you find it hard to follow or the pattern already exists. Now just like the biscuits I used a safety pin to attach the flowers. I just added a Crochet bow. So I definitely need a break from Crochet now but I am pleased with results.
Thank you for checking out my blog today. Xxxx Let's start May with some good news. An update on Loki pictured above thanks to steroids is pretty much back to her usual self well slightly on the skinny side but now she is eating and doing everything she should be. We aren't sure if they steroids are going to be long term or even if they are just buying her time but it's wonderful to have so full of beans. Let's get back to crafting. This month for me is a no spend month! I mean I'm not buying any new craft supplies. As much as I love buying craft supplies (let's face it who doesn't)but I have been sorting out some storage for my craft supplies and it really has highlighted how much I already have, so I really felt like I wanted to use up some supplies. What am I upto this month then you ask? . Well the sun's out and I'm dusting off some of my summer clothes what I realise is have very little jewellery. The reason is I find anything heavy very annoying but I do like to accessories when I can plus I also have a lot of odd felt scraps to use up so keep a look out for what I get up to!. I still have my notice board to finish, plus my new Crochet wreath and a few birthday cards. I really hope to make some little baby Crochet shoes but at this moment in time I'm a little worn out from Crochet. With the sun shining I have a little garden project to bring you to so it looks set to be a busy month.
So take a moment out to look at your supplies and get making! Xxxx . |
